Fast Food

Many companies in the world try to advertise the best way possible so that they can draw their customer’s attention. Some people may feel that certain companies choose the way they advertise by stereotyping cultures that will be attracted to their product even more. After gaining more knowledge on the topic it seems as if that is a true statement.

One of the advertisements from a company that is often stereotyped by people is “the subway diet”. Subway teamed up with Jared Fogle, who did the commercials for subway over the years, to gain an upper hand in the fast food business by allowing Jared to tell his story on commercials which attracts people that are overweight. Jared is a white American male who weighed 419 lbs. and knocked it down to 190 lbs. by eating subway on a regular day basis. Of course people can stereotype this situation and believe that if they just eat subway, then they will lose a lot of weight like Jared did [Lindsey].

What these ads don’t tell you is that, nothing is guaranteed to get you in better shape by eating subway sandwiches. Jared was the most popular person known for losing so much weight. With America having such a large percentage of people overweight this served as the perfect advertising strategy. But after subway had gained off of their marketing scheme he slowly faded to black.

Not all overweight people eat subway, but that was the stereotype attached to this particular fast food chain restaurant.

Many companies advertise based on stereotyping, but the link between race and food marketing remains a touchy subject [Nittle].
